       硅酸铝纤维棉呈白色多孔状，形似棉花被芯，抗拉耐压，不易变形，根据需要的不同还可将原材料制作成管状、板状等。硅酸铝针刺毯可用作高温垫片，耐火层，隔热层，航天电力的高温绝热保温材料，它为我国航天工业做出了很大的贡献。
       硅酸铝纤维棉属中性偏酸性材料，除与强酸碱反应外，不被其他弱碱、弱酸及水、油、蒸气侵蚀，与铅、铝、铜不浸润，具有优良的柔韧性和弹性。硅酸铝针刺毯密度较小，比轻质隔热砖炉衬轻75%以上，比轻质浇注料炉衬轻90%—95%，导热系数约为轻质粘土砖的1/8, 是轻质耐热衬里（浇注料）的1/10，热容量仅为轻质隔热衬里和轻质浇注料衬里的1/10左右，大大降低了能源损耗量，节能蓄热效果显着。同时，硅酸铝针刺毯具有施工简便，无需烘炉，缩短施工周期，安装简便等特点。
